SOAPware v5.x Network Configurations

Work Group

  • 1-10 Clients
  • Windows 2003
  • Windows XP

With a small "Work Group" setting (10 computers or less on the network) SOAPware can be ran on a Windows 2003 and XP workstation. A peer to peer configurations is adequate.

SOAPware does not demand a dedicated server in this environment. A 10base/T network is adequate, but for speed we recommend a 100/1000 network throughout. 10/100 Ethernet hubs are adequate for this environment. We also recommend, daily backups on all data.

We recommend that you always backup your data daily, always include a backup device on your computer that holds your data.

Departmental

  • 11 - 20 Clients
  • Windows 2003 Server or above

In a Departmental environment we recommend a dedicated server with a true server operating system, such as Windows 2003. SOAPware databases can reside on any operating system that allows for the "Mapping" of a drive from the client computer. In this setting the topography of the network should be a star configuration off of a switch, with hubs no more than one layer deep, or a star system with all switches and no hubs. All the network should be of 100 or 1000MB speeds.

We also recommend, daily backups on all data.

Enterprise

  • 51 - 150 Clients
  • Windows 2003 Server or above

In an Enterprise level environment we recommend that you have a "Certified Network Engineer" configure your network.

We also recommend, daily backups on all data.
