Use Less Storage
SOAPware’s Optical Character Recognition, or OCR for short, provides the capability to scan documents into your system and then have the computer transform the scanned document into text as if someone had typed the information directly into SOAPware.
The system converts your documents into computer text as opposed to an image of the document.
Conventional scanning methods save the document as an image. An image of text cannot be altered, and it uses more of your computer’s storage space. OCR stores the document as text, using less storage space and allowing you to alter documents.
Move Toward a Paperless Office
It seems you have been hearing about the "paperless" office since you finished medical school, but a quick look around your office tells you that you are nowhere near achieving paperless nirvana.

No System is Perfect
OCR is a process by which the computer takes a scanned document and converts it to text.
This process results in a report that looks and responds as if it was typed directly into the computer.
As mentioned above, this takes care of the two disadvantages of scanning: storage space and the inability to search the data.
The drawback to this process is that the computer can make mistakes in the recognition process if the original document is of a poor quality. We encourage you to look carefully at documents scanned into the system.
